Identify this plant

Can you identify this plant with only two crappy photos?

It's in the Bay Area of California.

oohh...I have seen this in socal...are the stems kind of hairy/prickly?
I don't know if plant is quite the right word...try weed.

It's a type of mallow, we used to get it all over the place in Oakland. It'll grow fast, and once it really gets a taproot down, it's near impossible to get rid of. I recommend pulling early and often.

I would agree with Tsuga. It looks like thimbleberry to me as well.

Could be an anemone. They can have those strawberry-shaped leaves.

Pretty sure it is a Japanese anemone
