Best answer: Bangkok Center Grocery in Chinatown in Manhattan should have it. It's on Mosco street, a side street off of Mott that goes towards Columbus Park.

There are a couple Thai groceries in Queens too. Inthira Thai Market in Woodside near Sripraphai restaurant should have it too.

They also sell it at Kalustyan's in Murray Hill.

Best answer: The small grocery store between the fish stores on the south side of Grand at Grand and Chrystie (across from the subway entrance) almost always has it, along with other herbs (mint, some I have not yet identified). It's in the big fridge on the right -- a bag is $1.50 I think. They usually sell it at the NY market on Mott too, but they put it in such giant packages that I can never finish it (about $4 or $5).

I don't know what your time frame for getting this is, but you can grow Thai Basil from the sprigs they give at Vietnamese restaurants.

Many greenmarkets in the city have people who sell thai basil. You can grow it on your windowsill and use however many leaves you need at a time.

If you want plants, Oak Grove Plantation has many varieties. I did a one time wholesale purchase from them last year of many varieties of herbs and the plants were healthy and good looking; the people were also really nice and helpful.

They are at Union Square Greenmarket.

If I were sourcing herbs to grow, I'd go to them. And if I only needed a bit for cooking, it might be expensive, but I'd know the quality was damn good.

Best answer: I actually disagree that it is widely available at the Greenmarkets. The only vendor who will consistently have it during the summer is Stokes at USQ. I'm a regular at USQ, Tribeca and Abingdon Square and that's the only vendor who is selling it as a cut herb.

If you really need it that day - go to the Chinatown places mentioned above.
