Rom-Com Advice Giver

I'm looking for the name of a (late-'80s?) romantic comedy based on my memory of a particular scene. The lead male (either Billy Crystal or a Billy Crystal-type) attempts to give advice to the lead female. She says that she wants to leave town and go somewhere, and he says, "So go." She counters with the reasons she has to stay; he deadpans, "So don't go." This goes back and forth two or three times.

(It may have been "get married" instead of "go," but the important thing is the "So ____." / "So don't _____." structure. I'm reasonably sure that it's not When Harry Met Sally. Thanks a lot!)

Any idea who the lead female is?

On the off chance that this was a Billy Crystal movie, here's a list of all the movies he's been in. Perhaps reviewing it will help you figure out what movie you're thinking of.

I think it's City Slickers. I'm not home, so I can't check the exact scene, but I think it's when he is debating to go on the cattle drive..

Unfortunately not, because I'm picturing Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan in my head (even though I know it's not from When Harry Met Sally, a movie I pretty much know off by heart). Reviewing his filmography didn't help either, because I've actually seen very few of his movies and don't recognize most of them.

I found an interesting site and tried both "so go" and "so don't go" and even "then don't go". I didn't find anything that sounded right. http://www.subzin.com/search.php?q=%22so+go%22.
If you remember any further dialogue, try it there.

Could have it been Forget Paris? Where Debra Winger plays a passable Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal plays the world's shortest NBA referee?

I'm thinking it might be Albert Brooks in "Modern Romance".

Response by poster: My mom suggests that it may have actually been a scene between Meg Ryan and a friend in Sleepless in Seattle.

Oh yes. It's definitely Rosie o'Donnell and Meg Ryan. Probably when she's packing to go to Seattle the first time.

I googled and found a similar quote from Good Will Hunting but can't copy and paste for some reason. It's between Ben and Casey Affleck, but I don't remember it.

Except I just read through all of Rosie O'Donnell's lines really quickly and she doesn't. Her name in the movie is Becky if you want to look. I can totally hear her saying it. Except I could also totally hear Billy Crystal saying it.

Was it maybe A League of their Own?

As a fellow When Harry Met Sally fan, I can confirm that it is very unlikely to be in there. I know the way you know about a good melon.

My first thought was it sounded like Forget Paris, but that's not on the basis of much, and I can't find a lot of info about it online.

Fwiw, this appears to be the screenplay for Sleepless in Seattle. I can't find the exchange you're thinking of in there, but it could have been ad libbed. There are several dozen scripts at http://www.awesomefilm.com/ if you want to take a look (but sadly, not Forget Paris).

I could swear it's Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in You've Got Mail. This just may be a testament to how much all these films blend into one homogeneous rom-com ball my head.

Reminds me of Dustin Hoffman and Teri Garr in Tootsie.

There's a whole conversation between the leads in Eternal Sunshine... about one of them saying "so go", in a way, but there's no corresponding "so don't go" at least in the section included there.

Angling out, I thought of Martin Blank (John Cusack) and his secretary Marcella (played by his sister Joan Cusack) discussing whether he should attend his class reunion, but it doesn't seem to be that, either.

There's a "So go" line in City Slickers, but it's once and it's Daniel Stern saying it.

I've definitely seen whatever this is...I keep picturing Elaine on Seinfeld doing the dismissive "So go"/"So don't go" thing to George or Jerry, trying to close the other person's part of the conversation so she can move on to something else. That might not be it...It might just be similar to the movie scene in question.

Is this from As Good As It Gets? Where Helen Hunt's character is trying to make up her mind to go on the trip and talking with her mom?
