Spirals in the Alps

A new age-y community in the Alps based around/obsessed with spirals or some kind of spiral mechanisms? Did I dream this?

This is going to be a very unclear question since I have only the haziest recollection of this.

I remember having read in some popular science magazine about some new age mechanism invented by some eccentric that resembled some kind of a spiral or a vacuum tube, and that he had made many different versions of. What they were supposed to do, I don't know, probably healing/messaging aliens/who knows.

I also think the article mentioned he had founded some kind of a community around this invention, possibly in a valley in the Alps, where those spiral mechanisms were everywhere.

I just rememered this now years later and it sounds fascinating, any ideas?

Best answer: Are you thinking of Damanhur?

Might be a stretch, but possibly you're conflating hearing about the horror manga/film Uzumaki and something else?

Response by poster: Damanhur looks promising. That's likely it. I feel like there were some kind of spiral mechanisms or machines involved, though, could I be mixing two different new age-y things together — Damanhur and something else?

Nomiconic, it was actually a discussion about Uzumaki that made me remember this!

While there are no spirals involved one group you might have read about is Methernitha and their Testatika "free energy" device.
