Do steroids occur naturally?

What are the best sources of naturally occurring steroids which would aid the development of muscle mass? What sort of intake would be required, eg dosage size, frequency, timing before workouts, etc to make them effective?
Clearly taking illegal substances is wrong and not beneficial for long-term health and I don't want to pay huge amount of money on commercial supplements when something can be bought from the grocery store!

Head down to the farmer's market and buy some prairie oysters. Eat 'em raw - cooking destroys the testosterone. One bull ball in the morning and one at night will increase your free level of circulating testosterone significantly. They're not even illegal.
Everything mentioned here, including use of anabolic steroids to bulk up, and eating raw testicles, is a staggeringly bad idea health-wise; but you point out that you're already aware of this.

Best answer: Your body is the best source. Eat right, workout (not to much), and get plenty of rest. The liver will reduce any whole testoserone that you take orally. That's the reason for pro-steroids and chemically altered forms. Pay attention to your fat intake. Get enough - at least 30% of your daily caloric intake. TAKE OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS! All the wives tales about oysters (of any variaty) and other foods address deffiencies your body has.

Response by poster: Bulls bollocks and oysters don't sound like a nice combination! Perhaps the answer really is to just work-out harder, more often and load my system with protein?

Yup, eat well, lift heavy and give your muscles plenty of rest.
