I'm trying to help a friend find a specific young adult book.

He remembers it involved a modern day guy getting off of a school bus and suddenly being in Arthurian times. This of course rules out "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court", and several others I've found on google. Does anyone remember a book with this specific scenario? Thanks.

This is kind of a shot in the dark, since I haven't actually read any of these, but The Hairpin had a "Name that book" thread and the third book (which was never discovered) sounds similar to yours. Here were the guesses:

The Gauntlet by Ronald Welch
Seven Day Magic by Edward Eager
The Castle In The Attic (which has a sequel, The Battle for the Castle) by Elizabeth Winthrop
Crusade In Jeans by Thea Beakman
Half Magic by Edward Eager

It's been a long time since I read it, but could it be The Forever King by Molly Cochran and Warren Murphy?

Having read Seven Day Magic, Half Magic, and both the Castle books by Elizabeth Winthrop, it's not any of those. (Half Magic is awesome, though.) Other than that, I've got nothing. Sorry.

Could it be this one:
A Kid in King Arthur's Court
a novel by Anne Mazer.
New York : Disney Press : Buena Vista Pictures [distributor], 1995.

I asked a similar question a while back.

Here is the link with some other book suggestions.

Scenarios like this occur frequently in The Dark Is Rising books. In The Dark Is Rising, there is a scene where Will gets off a (city) bus and then some serious Arthurian stuff happens, and in The Grey King, there is a scene involving Will walking Bran the Pendragon home from school on a nice Welsh afternoon when they find themselves transported back to the Arthurian world.
