No need for matching linens

Looking for a pretty, small, old, and inexpensive hotel within a short drive (up to 4 hours) of Seattle.

I was looking for a hotel within a short walking or driving (not hiking) distance from hot springs, but none of the options (Bonneville, Sol Duc) looked right- a little swanky and institutional. Hot springs would be great, but now I'm just looking for a small hotel outside of a city, preferably by water, that has a quirky vibe, maybe an old hippie thing going on. Anywhere in western washington or northern oregon would be fine, I'm simply do not have very much experience with travel sites. I have previously looked for lodging based solely on price, rather than... the ambience. For me, inexpensive means ~120 a night for two adults.

Any recommendations?

Best answer: The Sou'wester Lodge is about 3 hours away. It's definitely got a funky hippie vibe! And the Depot Restaurant just next door is really good. There aren't hot springs, but it's a nice funky place to spend a weekend.

Best answer: Is Breitenbush Hot Springs in Oregon too far? It's probably about a 5-hour drive from Seattle, and is decidedly...quirky.

If that's too far, This hotel in Port Townsend is kind of funky and awesome, though not hot-springs-y.

I live in Port Townsend. You can also check out:

The Bishop Victorian
The Swan
The Water Street Hotel

Port Angeles is much, much LESS quirky/hippy-thang. PT is wonderful.

Sol Duc is IMO quite an uninteresting hot springs. They pump the hot water into "modern" concrete pools in a tired resort environment.

Response by poster: Sou'wester looks perfect. Breitenbush looks interesting too, will have to check that out in the fall. Thanks!

Doe Bay on Orcas Island has hot tubs and water views, while having accomadations at pretty much any price point (hostel, yurt, and small cabins).

Not outside a city, but in the heart of a small town's downtown, The Majestic Inn & Spa in Anacortes. 4 blocks from the water, minutes from the San Juan ferry. The Captain Whidbey Inn is also nice, and Coupeville is a very laid back town. Neither is near hot springs, both are near/on the water.
