Houston to Houma

I work on Gulf of Mexico oil rigs and I got a call from my boss this morning saying my usual rig is up and running and they want me back tomorrow. I am supposed to get to Houma, LA to catch the chopper.

The question is, how safe is it to drive from Houston to Houma at the moment, or if it is possible at all.
Apologies to those who live in LA and are dealing with the horrible situation on the ground if this seems a trivial question, but I'd rather not add to the problems there by cluelessly driving into a terrible mess.

The Louisiana Dept. of Transportation has a temporary call center you can call for the latest info, at (225) 379-1232. I don't know if they'll be able to answer all your questions, but give them a shot anyways.

I-10 to Baton Rouge and slightly past Gonzales isn't that bad. You may be able to take the Sunshine Bridge at Napoleonville. I think that's exit 182, Donaldsonville/Sorrento. Follow the signs.

I'd call the call center, first, but I bet The Jesse Helms is right. Take 10 to Lafayette, and 90 south from there. It should be open.

However you get there thanks and good luck.

Dangit, I live near there and I should know better that it's not Napoleonville where the Sunshine Bridge is, it's Donaldsonville. (You do go through Napoleonville on Highway 1 on your way to Thibodaux and onto Houma)

You're goiong to have no trouble at this point getting to Houma on 90 from I-10 in Lafayette. You may want to fill-up in Lafayette or before because there are some stations without fuel around here and it might be worse to the south.

I know for sure that people have driven to Golden Meadow from Morgan City along 90 to HWY 1, so I'm sure you're fine into Houma.

Good luck
