Tips for a trip to Mexico?

I'm headed to Mexico - tomorrow! We're driving, and will be headed for Rocky Point (Puerta Penasco) and San Felipe. There'll be a mix of camping and hotels, and it's just me and my SO going. Besides sunscreen and reading material, what should I take to ensure maximum awesomeness? Any great places you've been to in either city that you'd recommend? My Spanish is at about the level of a 3 or 4 year old kid, the SO is fluent, if that matters.

It is kind of chilly at night (and during the day) this time of year so dress appropriately. I wasn't blown away with San Felipe when I was there last (2011. I was there in the summer when it is a ghost town so your mileage may very). I speak decent Spanish but many of the people I ran into in shops and restaurants would start spewing to me in English given my güero-ness.

I haven't been to Rocky Point since I went to ASU in the 80s and was wasted the whole time. A friend of mine from Phoenix goes there every year with his camper and family.

Feliz viaje.

Yeah I was going to say, something for the wind in San Felipe. Last time I was there, it was more or less warm enough to enjoy the beach (in winter) but the wind flinging sand in our face ruined it.

My best advice is make sure you read the latest Department of State travel advisories for travel to Sonora. There have been recent crimes (both targeting Americans and not) in Puerto Penasco, and if you're visiting it's good to be aware of what precautions are advisable.

Have a safe and enjoyable vacation!

San Felipe's website is actually pretty great. It's actually better than the town itself.

Remember to buy insurance! Your US policy won't be in force in Mexico.
