How can I record live streaming video of a public event?

Our dear friends' 6 year old daughter was murdered on Dec. 14th at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The father is testifying at a public hearing in Connecticut this afternoon. This is the website from which it will be broadcast.; the event is titled "BI PARTISAN GUN VIOLENCE MENTAL HEALTH WORKING GROUP". I have been asked to make a recording of this event. I live in Massachusetts and cannot view the event in person nor do I receive this channel on television, so recording it as it streams online is the only route open to me. I have experimented with recording the stream using VLC and SDP with no success thus far. Your help would be greatly appreciated by me and the parents.

Have you seen the fact that you can buy DVDs of the broadcasts after they have aired? I'm looking at the links for things that aired earlier today (the blue section below). It looks like they cost $30.

I appreciate your willingness to record it, but I think buying a DVD directly from the source might provide the best quality. Given the nature of the event, maybe they might be willing to waive the fee if it's a hardship.

What kind of computer do you have?

I successfully used Snapz Pro X to capture the stream of my brother's participation in Marriage Day in Seattle last December. You'll need a Mac to use that, and it takes a little fussing so you'll want to practice in advance. Feel free to memail me if you need any help.

Getting the DVD does sound easier, though, if it's an option.

I have used Snapz Pro often with no trouble. Practice ahead of time so you get the hang of the software.

Here's a list of software alternatives to Snapz Pro X. Download one of these and figure out how to record your screen to save a YouTube video. Repeat the process for the live stream.

I have used something called Jing that is normally used as a screencast tool to take up to 15 minutes of streaming video. It was very simple to use.
