Does anyone have any links to watch the various shorts that have been nominated for this years Academy Awards?
Does anyone have any links to watch the various shorts that have been nominated for this years Academy Awards?
I'm a on-line film critic and I like to check out these shorts where possible, however some cursory searching hasn't turned up much this year. As I'm based in the UK there also won't be any opportunities to see them ahead of any feature releases which I understand certain exhibition chains sometimes promote.
To be clear, I'm talking about these sectors;
Documentary Shorts;
Inocente – Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine
Kings Point – Sari Gilman and Jedd Wider
Mondays at Racine – Cynthia Wade and Robin Honan
Open Heart – Kief Davidson and Cori Shepherd Stern
Redemption – Jon Alpert and Matthew O'Neill
Live Action Shorts;
Asad – Bryan Buckley and Mino Jarjoura
Buzkashi Boys – Sam French and Ariel Nasr
Curfew – Shawn Christensen
Death of a Shadow (Dood van een Schaduw) – Tom Van Avermaet and Ellen De Waele
Henry – Yan England
Animated Shorts;
Adam and Dog – Minkyu Lee
Fresh Guacamole – PES
Head Over Heels – Timothy Reckart and Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly
The Longest Daycare – David Silverman
Paperman – John Kahrs
Thanks in advance - and legitimate sources please, I don't particularly don an eyepatch and obtain a parrot.....

Check at your local (or the nearest large city) art theater -- there's one here in Detroit, for instance, that does these every year.

A friend of mine hosts a party to watch all the shorts each year. I believe he gets them in a bundle through iTunes.
Be sure to watch Tim Reckart's film. I'm proud to say I was in the first animation class he took in college. (He was already ridiculously talented at it.)

iTunes will have them on Feb 19th (which will still give you time to view them before the Oscars). You can also keep watching this page in case a local UK theater decides to pick them up. I've been watching my area and they do indeed keep adding locations (although none close enough to make it worth my while). There were many more VOD options last year, and those may show up again (a local cable company had them on PPV, for example) as well as many more theater showings. I don't know if this is a case of the distributor not being on the ball this year, or if interest just wasn't that great.

You should definitely check your local theaters. There's an organization that compiles all the shorts into one presentation and many theaters (at least in the states) have taken to showing it over the past few years. Failing that, check itunes, as JJtheJetPlane says.
If that doesn't work, my only other suggestion is that my local theater showed Paperman before Wreck-It Ralph. (And it was lovely!)
