Smoking up the apple?

I recently saw a movie where some guys were hanging out and scenes were being shown of them smoking various substances. One of the scenes looked like they were smoking an apple with the top of it hollowed out and smoke coming out. What's up with this?

Are they actually smoking an apple or putting something special inside the apple? Does it just look like an apple? Do people do what they were doing in real life, or was it just for the movie? Are there other intersting foods that people smoke?

I don't know about the movie, but I've heard tell (just heard tell) you can make a bong out of an apple (or a potato.)

This is often referred to as an apple bong, although it really should be called an apple pipe.

People often smoke marijuana with these devices, and not just in movies. And yes Charlize Theron apparently partakes.

Oh, yeah -- peel it first.

My favorite readymade pipe is the Coke can.

I was once on a vacation where I had procured a bud but no implement. I snuck down to the hotel lobby, triumphant prematurely -- I was pretty bummed when the Coke machine returned a plastic bottle.

A friend of mine in college made a bong out of an empty plastic bottle of ketchup. It even went by the moniker "Mr. Mato."

Yeah apples, carrots, coke cans, rolled up tin foil. You can make a pipe out of pretty much anything. There used to be that great web site where you would give the guy three household items and he would tell you how to smoke weed out of it. Anyone rememebr that one?

Some naysay, but an apple isn't a bad travel pipe; no paraphernalia charges! I smoked out of an apple sitting in the bed of a truck when a couple buddies and I were en route hitchhiking to Dallas.
