ForMyBetterHalfFilter: Pips is looking for a good women's salon in New York when she can get her hair cut and styled to her liking for under $75. As a guy who gets $12 trims I have no idea. Any suggestions?

OK, I'm not answering the question, but has she ever considered being a hair model? I haven't paid for a hair cut in years, and I've always been happy with the way it's done. At the moment I go to Bumble and Bumble, and they are great.

I am with you on the trims ($15 for me) but I have have it on good advice that Madora on Madison is great if you have long hair (below the shoulders) and the price is right.

The NYC Insider lists some good bargains.

She has sort of unruly, curly hair, doesn't she? What kind of style is she thinking of? There's a really great salon in NYC called Ouidad that specializes in waves and curls, but they're a little more pricey - more like 125.00 for a cut and style. But worth it, supposedly. Two friends of mine travel 200 miles every few months to get their hair cut there, and their hair looks amazing.

If she doesn't have curly hair, disregard my comment.

This is not answering the question, but after years of getting cheapo trims I can testify to the worth of splashing out on a pricey hair cut. It was amazing. My philosophy now is either pay $35 at a Jean Louis David or go to a good salon and pay over $100. The middle bit doesn't seem worth it.
(Unless someone here can tip us all to some underpriced gem.)

I take it back. Cerebus's link seems almost too good to be true!

If she is, in fact, curly, my curly friends swear by Devachan . I'm not sure if it is in that price range but I believe it shouldn't be too far off (website doesn't seem to list prices).

The Beehive Salon in Williamsburg is the best ever, ever, ever. They give great haircuts (for men and women) for only $45 a pop. Plus it's right near the L train so pretty easy to get to from Manhattan. I always figured that haircuts are pretty much the same and that the quality of your style had to do with your styling prowess, but the ladies at the Beehive have opened my eyes to the wonders of a really good cut.

Umm, yea, if she's willing to go $125, April at Suite 303 is an actual superstar. But I know the salons in Williamsburg are great, too.
