A job while I train for a career?

I'm currently in school for a 2-year degree in biomedical equipment technology (how to fix medical stuffs). While I'm going through the program, I'd like to have a part-time job that, in some way, could be a resume builder...but I also need to make semi-decent money.

Let's say, $20/hr+, 20-ish hours per week?

I'm 38, have a BA in psychology, have run my freelance business for the past 10 years. I'd be willing to do some kind of short-term training course for a specific job.

Obviously, something hospital or otherwise medical related would be good, but I also think IT/networking/computer or repair or electronics-related would all be valuable. Basically, I'm open to anything for which I can make a case in an interview that it makes me a better candidate.

So...thoughts? Thank you!

When I was a caretaker for my grandmother in our home, there was a very nice gentleman who came by to fix whatever equipment that needed fixing. He was sort of the Hospice organization's medical handyman. He did fairly basic repair work, but it would give you the experience of being around patients, working with nurses to see to their needs, etc.

Other home-care facilities may need similar services, and since they were needed around the clock, they might be open to flexible shifts. Alternatively, specific medical equipment companies may have positions like this open that focus on repairing their equipment.

Hospital biomed departments often hire 'lackeys' who have no education to do basic gophering / checklist tasks. In your shoes, I'd just keep scanning the hospital job listings and try for anything mechanical. The more connections you make in the hospital the easier it will be once you get your degree.

Maybe check companies like Emsar and see if they're hiring for non-tech positions.
