I am looking to buy Trave Table... What do you think?

http://www.willygoat.com/imagescatalog/Eurostyle/36bb.jpg

I am looking to get this table.. for a modern dining room... What do you think of it? I was looking for simple 42inch round glass with normal straight prefably four chrome legs... but just could not find it anywhere under 300... (if you have any suggestion.. let me know)

Do you think the trave table is too gimicky? too fake?
I spent a lot of money to make the room original piece modern... but ran out of money and need just a simple dining table. (I came across a lot of fake modern designer "like" furnitures... but they are so horrible looking and quality is bad)

I only worry about this because I see this table a little too much searching around google or yahoo shopping...

I am hoping to take out those little tensil bars to make it at least clean... do you think that will seriously hurt the structure? It looks like the main bars are nicely planted on the base.

The table might be unsuitable for use as a dining table. You'd inevitably have guests that put their elbows and a substantial portion of their weight on the edge of the table, and it doesn't look like the table's secured in any fashion unless there are suction cups at the tops of the three base posts. Even so, is that enough?

Regarding the tensil bars, yes, removing them would make the table look cleaner, but would very likely seriously compromise the integrity of the structure. The base doesn't look deep enough to really provide the support you're looking for, or the tensil bars wouldn't have been put on in the first place.

As for whether it would fit in with your decor, you're the one who gets to spend time in your dining room, not me, so maybe that's a question you should answer for yourself. :)

Good luck.

You absolutely need the tensil bars. At the very least, the table will tend to twist without them. (The radius of the tabletop is large relative to the radius of the support column, so there's a lot of torque for the twisting action.) And I agree with cactus that it doesn't seem terribly well suited for a dining table, with the small base and narrow tabletop support.

Also, I think it's ugly, gimicky, etc. But I will never see your dining room, so why do you care?

I really don't want to see the ones you're dismissing. I think this table is just horrid.

I'm with FlamingBore. This table It looks like the 80:s. Go with light wood instead.

If you have gone through a lot of trouble to use authentic pieces eleswhere in your home, why don't you just wait until you have the funds to buy a piece you really love?

and I also don't like that table, but I prefer Danish Modern - so take my opinion with a grain of danish salt.

I agree that it's pretty bad. If you really need a table now you'd be better off buying something at Ikea as a placeholder until you can afford the table you really want.

o.k.. this table is pretty bad...
Just fyi.,. the room is set with Noguchi table, Nelson bench, etc..etc..

ikea isn't an option for me... not around town and shipping is minimum $199 for $99 table...

this morning i am thinking to just buy a 42" Round glass top for $120 and buy some wood at homedepot to create my own base... just four legs with minimum structure...

anythoughts ..? help?

thanks everyone so far for steering me away from a disaster.

I'm totally jealous of your other furniture. I can't help with the construction of the base, but here's an article that gives some ideas. Some of them are pretty cheesy, but it could spark something.

update: thanks for the compliment missmerrymack....

on my way to homedepot i stopped by Value Furniture store next door.... I found a 42" veneer light beige wood top with eames classic type base (one chrome cylinder rod with four legs spreading out) kinda like the ones used at school art table... or something... but i looked on the construction and.. wow... i can just replace the top with $100 42" round glass top... the table was on sale "as is" for $99 The sales person said it used to cost $500...he didn't understand why... he thought people didn't like it because it looked like a 60's cafeteria table... ... so i can have total of $200 or so for a modern eames looking table... i just have to figure out how i can fit it in to my car...

To missmerrymack... since i am boasting my new room..... i also got original noguchi round ceiling white lamp made of rice paper on top of where the table will be.... Nelson atomic and sunburst clocks are on the walls also.. my home isn't modern outside...but i sure would like to make it more lofty and modern inside... oh... ALL wood floor with very very high ceilings all around...(this place wasn't selling because of this add combo option in the place ... according to the realtor....

I am very happy with my arrangements.. anyone has anymore modern ideas....?
