Tips on moving to Kuwait

I'll be moving to Kuwait from New York City in November. I've lived abroad before so the culture shock may not be too bad. As an Irish Canadian, beer and hockey deprivation are my main concerns. I know there's an ice rink in KC but any further suggestions from past/current ex-pats?

The "brown" tastes slightly less like paint stripper than the "white"

I did some time in Damascus, Syria. I found a lively community of oil-workers, UN employees and embassy staff all devoted to pissing the time away. Pass times included rugby and Hash House running. It was all good fun.

You'll find lots of ex-pats doing stuff like that when you get out there. Just don't sit around -- get active and you'll have a great time!

KC is a bit more conservative than Damascus though. It is true that there are ex-pat communities in all those places, but you won't be having wine with dinner out in KC like you would in Damascus, but hey, it ain't Saudi at least.
