Are there any cheap, used iPads of any generation for sale?

I'll shortly be leaving my job for a new opportunity, and will have to return the company supplied iPad. I have a good chunk of content and some useful apps that I'd like to migrate to a personal device cheaply.

Basically what I'm looking for is the cheapest way to be able to access the old apps and content. The cheapest I can find is heavily used iPad 1st gens for around $240. I'd be fine with an old, heavily used iPad (even one with a worn battery), but that seems exorbitant.

Is there anywhere that has reasonable prices on them? I've tried ebay, craigslist, google, and Apple refurb. Or does a heavily used 1st gen iPad really demand that much of a premium?

I sold my heavily used, first generation iPad to a friend for $50.

That said, if the cheapest price you see is $240, then that's it's cheapest price in the market.

Also, how do you plan to get these apps onto your new iPad? Did you purchase them through your personal iTunes account? Or through an iTunes account belonging to your employer?

Also make sure that the apps you want to run on your new iPad will run on the first generation iPad.

Would you employer allow you to reimburse them and keep the iPad?
Hopefully for a more reasonable cost than the $240 you are observing.

Your apps will automatically be available on a new device if you activate the same Apple ID that you used to purchase said apps in the first place on the new device. If the apps were downloaded via a company Apple ID, you probably would be violating some kind of company rule if you continued to use that apple id to transfer the apps to a new device of your own.

Do you absolutely need another iPad? You could get a new iPod touch which will likely support the majority of your needs unless you have mostly iPad only apps to transfer.

Response by poster: The iTunes account was registered with my personal e-mail address and user info, so I should be okay there.

I'll look into the iPod Touch, although I think one or two apps may be iPad-only.

Plug it into your computer and do a full backup before returning it (and wipe it after backup!). If and when you get your own ipad, it will set itself up using the prior backup if you choose to do so, meaning your content will still be there. Apps you bought will also still be available from the backup or from the cloud.
