How to get serial numbers from optical drives?

Is there any way to determine the serial numbers of the optical drives in my computer without opening it up? I'm running Windows XP.

I've already tried the method suggested at this link, but it didn't work.

You could try Speccy.

Best answer: Nero InfoTool should be able to give you the serial numbers for your optical drives (plus lots of other information like firmware version).

Response by poster: Nero InfoTool displays the serial number, but it will only give me info on one of the two drives installed in the computer. Both clearly appear in the Configuration tab under CD/DVD Drives, but there's no way to switch to the second drive. When I disable the first drive, it says that there are no drives installed.

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
