How do we encourage Amazon to stop sending out detailed order confirmations?
Hi,
Something that's worried me from a privacy perspective for a while is the fact that whenever I buy anything from Amazon they send out an email which details everything I've bought. Considering how insecure conventional email is, I'm worried that they're creating a permanent record of my reading habits.
What I'd like to know is how we can get some social momentum going to get Amazon to send out less detailed confirmation emails. I'm ok with Amazon confirming with me that I've bought something, but I don't see why they should list everything when you can protect against fraud just as easily the other way.
I'd appreciate any comments on the above.

I remember seeing somewhere that online commerce sites are legally required to send an email confirmation with an order number and say that the order is being processed. (The only website I found on this pertains to the UK.) I'm not sure if the detailed list of the order is required or simply encouraged. I'm also not sure exactly what kind of fraud they're expecting? (Stealing a copy of "50 Shades of Gray" from your porch? Making fun of you for reading "50 Shades of Gray"?)

They may add that as an option, but in my thousands of online purchases, I've never seen a retailer give the option of different types of e-mail confirmations.
