How do mimes tell you when they've kicked you out?

In 2002 I saw a film about a mime who is kicked out of the guild/brotherhood of mimes, set perhaps in NYC. My google- and imdb-fu fail me; can anyone recall its title?
Mime meets girl. Mime is kicked out of the brotherhood of mimes.
I thought it would be easy to find this title, but seemingly-exhaustive searches of imdb and google every few years have been fruitless. Can you name that film?

Sounds like you're thinking of the Roy Scheider film Still of the Night

Did you see it on TV or in the cinema? Country of origin? When was the film made within 10 years?

I rented it from a video store in southern Ohio in 2002 and I would guess that the film was made within 5 years +/- of 1995. Probably US in origin as it seemed like it was filmed in a city in the US.

Response by poster: Could it have been Alegria?
That's the closest plot summary to what I remember. Now to search it out, thanks!
