Question: Getting into BMX Racing at 31

I am looking to improve my social life and break the work/sleep monotomy.
I cycle occasionally and was thinking about joining my local cycling club, however I also read an interesting article about someone that took up BMX racing. It seems like a more exciting thing to do and I have fond memories of riding my BMX as a youngster.
I would like to take up this hobby, I live in London , England and since the Olympics took place here alot of these BMX tracks have been constructed.

I would like to know if anyone has taken up this hobby and what you have experienced?

I've resumed BMX recently at the advanced age of 35 after more than 15 off a bike. I've been riding at some of the new Olympic legacy BMX tracks round East London, as well as the plethora of new skate parks.

Couple of observations. There's definitely a lot of riders in their 30's and 40's round the London spots, so you won't feel out of place. I have however found BMX to be tough on my 30-something knees and shoulders. It's also quite expensive as an adult, as only fairly high end bikes have long enough top tubes for adult legs.

I recommend the guys at Volt BMX, for some friendly advice.

Have you looked at cyclocross? Seems to be super popular everywhere and lots of fun!
