Authorfilter: A friend is seeking an agent and a new publisher. He can't seem to attract either. [MI}

He's a published author with 10 gay mysteries (a series). He wants an agent and a new publisher, but can't seem to get either. What can he do? If interested, here's a link to his website.

Goffyy, I didn't answer this before now because I was afraid that what I have to say might seem rude. However, nobody else has seen fit to answer, and I don't actually mean to be a jerk, so I'm going to give you the advice that comes to mind.

I don't think your friend needs an agent and a publisher. I think your friend needs a writing instructor and an editor. He may be able to tell a story, but his writing skills need work. The excerpts I read are in desperate need of revision.

There's no shame in taking writing classes. I take them all the time at the local community college to keep my skills honed. I'm not a published author, but several of my classmates are. They continue to take community college level writing courses because they realize there's always room for improvement.

So, please don't take offense. I mean well. I just don't think your friend is ready to be published.
