Pls recommend an electronics timer that can run for a minute, shut down for a minute then restart..and continue looping that pattern.

I found one at home depot but it won't turn back on after switching off.

I haven't tried any, but I found 'cyclic timer' to be a good search term. Here is one match:

Adjustable ON/OFF Cyclic Timer (1 sec - 5 min) - Preassembled: A cyclic timer with independently adjustable ON and OFF periods, which can be adjusted via two PC board mounted trimmer potentiometers. Three versions are available: M1 (0.5 to 60 seconds), M5 (1 second to 5 minutes), and M60 (6 seconds to 60 minutes). It includes a relay which can handle loads of up to 3A / 110VAC. Supply voltage: 12VDC regulated. Recommended power supply: RPR-12600-P5.

Another listing here, with accessories like a case and board power supply.

Omron H3CA or H5CZ series- available from, for example, digikey or mouser
they need some wiring up, but they're pretty simple to use and they'll do what you want.

Fuji Electric has some too, cheaper than Omron.

How accurate does this need to be? How portable? How durable? What kind of output does it need - should it beep every 60 seconds, count down on an LCD display, have a little red LED be on for 60 seconds then off for 60 seconds until it's battery runs dry or you unplug it? Should it loop on it's own, or would it be preferable to have the user hit a button to acknowledge that the minute was up?

Oh, and one other question - how much would a timer that did EXACTLY what you wanted be worth to you? What are you willing to sacrifice for affordability?

For less than $20 you can buy an art controller which will do what you want. And more, if you decide to experiment in the future.
