Who did the stand-in secretary comic skit?

Who was it that did the comic send-up of the secretary of an organization as a stage performance in the 1930s-1950s?

In the era of the Algonquin Roundtable, I believe one of that gang performed a dry performance of a substitute secretary of some kind of fraternal or professional organization in a stage setting. Heywood Broun? Robert Sherwood? He presented himself as kind of a confused stand-in for the real secretary who was off on some illicit voyage.

Best answer: For posterity and future googlers, it was called "The Treasurer's Report". It was a successful on stage, and was later filmed as well.
