Question: Git dat hair outta da'er

Hair removal using Sugar Wax: I have looked up a number of DIY sugar wax recipes so I don't have to buy hair removal wax anymore. But I've tried a bunch and they aren't thickening enough to grab the hair and pull it out. Are there any tried and true online recipes?

The ones I've tried aren't thick enough or don't offer enough direction. I use the ones that direct you to use sugar and lemon juice (so it's easier for me to wash off without the use of oil).

Which recipe will get me the thickness I need to remove course black (Southeast Asian girl) leg hair? (I need the wax to be thick enough to pluck it out).

Please direct me to the ones you've tried and have actually worked (because I've googled a million recipes myself already and tried them).

BTW, my favorite wax to buy was Surgi-Wax, but I usually needed three containers to do my legs and unmentionable region, and I'd have to buy it twice a month which is a bit much for me right now.

Search YouTube for "arabic wax" and the first hit should be a recipe by LearnArabicWithMaha. It seemed pretty thick to me.

I've used the basic recipe from wikipedia and it worked fine. You can control the consistency by how much you heat it. A light golden brown color seems about right to me.

Is it possible that you're just not cooking the wax enough? Asking because I make homemade sugar and lemon juice wax and have accidentally made a not-thick-enough version when I just eyeballed the color and didn't heat it enough - a candy/deep-fry thermometer is really worthwhile for this.

Here is the recipe I've been using for years.

If you ever need to go back to Surgi-wax, you can re-use it a few times if you're not using it with muslin strips. Just crumple up what you peel off and re-microwave it until it liquifies again.

Agreed on the boil-it-longer thing. I like my sugar wax extra-thick, because I refuse to do the usual spread-and-yank method in certain tender areas after a really unpleasant incident which I shall leave to the imagination of the observer. So I do what I call the sticky-tweezers method, which requires stiffer wax. My husband used to sugar too, and he liked his to be what I guess is the normal consistency. I just took some of his and heated it further, and it turned out fine. (I'm the only one making the stuff now, so it's my consistency from the beginning.)
