Name that 1960's S&M Flick

My mom remembers going to a drive-in in 1964(ish) in Abilene, TX with scenes of a woman climbing innumerable stairs on her knees and a man sticking knives in his arms. Any idea what this is?

Best answer: I thought this must be a Mondo Cane film, and apparently I'm right. The "innumerable stairs" bit is mentioned in this synopsis of Mondo Pazzo, completed in 1963 but released in the US in 1965.
