I didn't know you could stuff so much cheese into a room this size!

Minneapolis bars filter - needed: one smallish private party room with audio & video capabilities at a bar in Minneapolis.

We are a small (<20) group of b-movie enthusiasts that would like to begin enjoying our films as a group in a reserved room at a local bar. So now the question is "which bar?"

requirements:
1) The rental should be free or fairly cheap (some have quoted us $250 + drinks and food, which is unacceptable)
2) Smallish room to reserve (like I said, we're less than 20, so I doubt a joint with a 60-100 person room will want to reserve it to us for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon)
3) A waiter would be lovely.

We're looking to gather every month and a half or so to enjoy some fine examples of cinematic excellence for 5 or 6 hours, and none of us have a residence that can contain us (read: spouses supplied thumbs-down in droves).

Do you have any knowledge of some joints that would be perfect for our little club?

We would also be open for other options (community center that lets us bring in beer?)

Common Roots! They have a great free community room. Need to bring your own projector though.

Maybe the Trylon, but it's expensive.

Or the Twin Cities Maker space. A few clubs meet in their classroom, which has a projector and allows booze.

Response by poster: I thought about the Trylong, but figured the price would be high, so I didn't even ask.

Thanks for the TC Maker suggestion, I tossed a note their way.

I'll second Common Roots, but I think it costs $75 if you're not a non-profit (or doing something community-oriented). But they always have really great beer and food. The maximum length you can rent the room for is 4 hours.

There used to be a place on the U of M campus (near Stub and Herb's) that was this Korean karoake place that had different rooms available to rent for like 6 hours at a time. Obviously you're not singing karoake, but I can't see them denying use of the room because you're not singing. I have no idea if it's still there, but that could be good, as the rooms are relatively small, but it'd be a BYOB event (and I think you have to be sly with the B anyway).

The Local has TVs behind panels in some of the side rooms. I accidentally discovered one the other week.

Boomtown Karaoke above Shin's Hair Salon??

Yeah, Boomtown Karoake is the place I was thinking of - probably not ideal, but could be fun!

Response by poster: I can only hope the smell from the hair salon permeated through everything so we all left there with headaches to make it a truly memorable time.

Wilde Roast, Chatterbox St Paul, Grumpys Roseville all have rooms, but might not have a/v.

Also consider DevJam.

I used to work at the Local and they use that room sometimes for general seating. It can be reserved for parties, but then you have to order a bunch of catered food off the menu. I kind of suspect that they won't let you use it for what you're looking for. I hope you find something, this is an awesome idea.
