What is this wonderfully primitive sounding instrument?

Scene I, Episode 4 of the BBC series "Elizabeth R". Begining at 1:20:54, when they are about to behead Mary Queen of Scots... it sounds like a cross between a pipe organ and a harpsichord. What is it? (this series is on Netflix if you want to listen).

You may like Circulus's music. I think I saw a BBC documentry a few years ago featuring the leader of the group, who owns/plays one of the biggest collections of medieval musical instruments (Based in Streatham, S. London as I recall)
