Pool Solar Cover Reel Recomendation

Can anyone recommend a good Solar Cover Reel for an 18'x36' size pool? All the reviews seem bad and the industry as a whole doesn't seem on the up and up. I'm currently looking for one that will go over my low profile diving board and have found the following one for $399 that seems the best one I can find. - "http://www.solarcovers.com/product/solar-cover-reels/commercial-reels/commercial-grade-reel/commercial-grade-solar-reel-for-pools-up-to-20-ft-wide-locking-casters-included" - Can you let me know what you recommend for a different one or what your opinion is of the one I found? I hate to spend sooo much money on something that might not be up to par. Thanks!

Best answer: You really need to look at some to decide. Depending on how much sunlight you get the actual cover could last 4 or 5 years if handled carefully. The reel ends will be made of some kind of synthetic resin and should last two or three times as long. Look for two things: First the rigidity and length of the aluminum spool, which is made of two pieces so you can adjust its length, so the more overlap the better. Secondly the casters, which may not last more than a couple of years (depending on the wear they get) so check that they are easily replaceable with standard hardware. In California I kept the reel ends covered with sacking to reduce the impact of sunlight. It also helps to give them a coat of floor paint.

Response by poster: Thanks, the one I pointed out seems to be all aluminum with 4 inch spool. So I'll go with it and protect it the way you mention.
