I saw Lyle Lovett last night (he puts on a great show!) and would like to learn to play one of the songs in his set. The song is Understand You, and I need piano sheet music, with lyrics. The closest my googling gets me is guitar chords, but I don't know what to do with them. The original songwriter appears to be Eric Taylor.

I'm sorry, I failed to read the rest of your question properly. You may be able to find the piano book at a music store or online (music store should have catalogue), or try searching the archives of Sheet Music Magazine http://www.sheetmusicmagazine.com/

I have managed to track down Eric Taylor, and have emailed the general contact address on his website. We'll see if I get anywhere.
