Help Me Not Break My iPad

"New" iPad(3) case with the sole purpose of preventing screen shattering body flex?

I love my new iPad, and keep it in Apple's SmartCase most of the time. However, there are occasions where I'll be shoving it into the rear (next to my body), full length pocket of a camera bag adjacent to a bunch of heavy, bumpy lenses and camera accessories.

For these occasions I want to buy a case/box/container which has rigidity and screen protection as its strong point. This means I need something that covers both the front and back of the iPad, with the sole purpose of preventing physical damage while I'm not actually using it.

My need is primarily to be able to use Easy Release while shooting on the street and on assignment.

In my ideal world, something would exist which would essentially be a reasonably rigid box just big enough to hold the iPad in its SmartCase so that I could stick the whole thing into the camera bag pocket.

I have mine in an Otterbox case and that would fit the bill. It's a little heavier than what you're used to but then you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Otterbox Defender is about as strong as I've seen and what I use for mine, I travel for work, have a toddler and it gets plenty of use and abuse.

Why not just get a dodocase? It's like having your ipad inside a hardcover book (without the bulkiness and ugliness of an Otterbox).

Otterbox is ugly, bulky, and heavy. It also stopped a 12-year-old autistic boy who once bit a laptop into pieces from destroying his ipad. So, I think the answer is Otterbox.

I have a pretty big jones on for Gumdrop cases.

The Griffin Survivor is apparently the "as used by troops in Afghanistan" model. (No personal experience with it to report, unfortunately.)

Our Griffin Survivor has protected an iPad from numerous toddler-induced plummets to the ground. It's heavy, but *does* seem to do a good job of protecting things. Definitely worth the $40 we spent to get it on Amazon.

I'm very happy with my CaseLogic. It's not heavy, but it offers decent protection. Four corner elastics allow easy removal, and it is an adjustable stand (landscape view).
