I have a pair of leather sandals that have a couple years of dirt, dead skin and miscelleanous grime worn deeply into the insoles. What's the best way to get rid of the foot-gunk without destroying the leather?

I hope this product is what you are looking for.
It is soap for leather.

Yeah. Saddle soap. Available wherever shoe polish is sold.

You're not going to believe me, but steel wool works wonders. A bit of glove oil after will make it back to normal.

For the doubters and naysayers, my sergeant-major of a dad strips the spit-shine off his parade boots every few years with steel wool and still gets them back into tip-top shape. Will do the same for your foot gunk.
