Crumpler bag dilema

I need a laptop bag. I've looked around the AskMe archives and I decided I want a crumpler bag. Seeing as a few people here seem to have them, I'd like to know what size bag my laptop might fit.

I like the backpack type, specifically the Sheep Scarer/Base Toucher/Team Player design. What I'm not sure about is which one my laptop would fit as I have a 15.4 inch (wide)screen laptop. It measures (w) 363 x (d) 278 x (h) 24mm. Anyone own one and care to enlighten me?

(I'd prefer the smallest possible......)

Gah! That link should be Crumpler.

That is a horrible, horrible site. I have no idea what they're trying to sell, but I don't want it.

Er, right... laptop bags. I have one from sfbags that I absolutely love. So, if you're not stuck on crumpler bags (which it seems you are, despite their horrid website), you may want to consider something from their selection. They certainly have stuff that fits your "smallest possible" requirement; the sleeve cases.

If you click "check this bag out," they take you to another page that specifies the internal dimensions of the bag in question.

Looks like all three you like would work, although "Sheep Scarer" might be too snug on one side.

Go to ebags.com. They have a whole series of tables that you can look up your exact laptop model and see what bags fit it.

Targus makes great, sturdy laptop bags. If you have a heavier laptop, I'd recommend their laptop backpacks. I bought the Gravity Backpack a while ago. It's much more comfortable than lugging something around on a shoulder strap. There's a compatibility/size link on every product page and I think you can search by compatibility/size. (Ah, here's their "compatibility wizard.")

(Note: my links are to the US site. If you live elsewhere, choose your territory first on their main page.)

My god that's a horrible web site. I can say that crumpler pretty much guaranteed that I would never want to buy anything from them.

Anyway, have you considered just getting a generic bag that will fit your laptop but isn't a "laptop bag"? Special-purpose laptop bags just scream out "please steal me". A regular bag plus some improvised padding should reduce the risk of theft greatly.

I have a Crumpler Budgie Smuggler camera bag that I love, or rather, loved, until I got a Domke. If you're not married to the Crumpler choice, I'd also recommend Tom Bihn's bags.

Thanks for the help. Still no solution though...

Aiko: as far as I can see, the crumpler site lists the external sizes only. Having seen a number of these bags on ebay with sellers rueing the fact that their laptop didn't fit, I don't want to risk buying without knowing.

matildaben: Ebags' UK site stocks crumpler, but doesn't have the nifty laptop selector. The US site doesn't stock crumpler. I know the site is an aquired taste, but the bags look really good. I tried one out in a shop today (sans my laptop). Unfortunately, the guy in the shop was a first order asshat who practicvally growled at my kid as I tried to speak to hiom.

It doesn't have to be a crumpler I guess, so I'll look at alternatives. I'd appreciate it if someone could answer the question though, but I guess I'm off the front page by now....
