photo developing

anyone recommend a good -- and affordable -- place to develop photos in new york city? I have a few rolls of t100-max black and white film, which I would also need a good deal on, and I don't want to go to the numerous fried-chicken-cum-photo-developing outfits splashed all over the city.

I really like Flat Iron on 17th between 6th and 7th. They are a small operation, however, so if you want your prints NOW, go to Ben Ness on University between 13th and 12th. Flat Iron has always given me good color reproduction and excellent black and white interpretation and they are willing to work with you. They use good paper too.

Ben Ness is also pretty good but they are fast and much busier and tend to ingore your needs a bit, but I think they are cheaper.

personally I go to westside on 24th st but that has always been for color transparencies...

adorama actually has a very good photo lab (18th st between 5 and 6 ave) and is reasonably priced.

if you go to adorama, remember that they are orthodox and so will be closed by about 1pm on Fridays and all day Saturday I believe.

ooh good point, I always forget about that and e.g. get burned trying to go to b&h on a saturday!

I always send my film away to be developed by Clark Color. I don't know if they do the sort of film you need done, but I find them to be very affordable, if you're willing to wait a few days. They'll even put your photos online.

Spectra or Spectra - or pick from the list

Wow, I had no idea Clark was still in business. I used to send my pics out to them for developing back in 1990 and was always satisfied. Ah, the days when I used to use Kodak Ektar 25.

I had a really bad experience at B&H trying to get a photo printed (they told me it would be cropped like X, but it came out like Y and they blamed me, somehow) and will take any opportunity to steer people away.
