Grout advice?

Any tips on applying the grout to a newly-stone-veneered fireplace? Specifically, I was wondering if the grout level should be consistently laid into the crevices level with the flattest (least projecting) piece of stone. Any other advice welcome, as well!

Best answer: Tips? Clean spills soon and thoroughly. There are different styles of grouting. It can be recessed below the face, level with it, or even protrude so it looks like a rope running along the joints. You can also have "U" shaped or "V" shaped grooves. I'm partial to recessed "U" shape myself, but do it how you like.

Not sure about grout with stone. Grout with tiles, mortar with stone, I'm familiar with. For mortar, pack it in, let it semi dry (a few hours) then brush it off with a stiff brush.

Response by poster: Clarifying, wilful, the stone veneer has already been applied to the prior-brick surface with mortar. The grout goes in between and is rather decorative in nature.
