Get me out of your starry eyes and

What cover of the Records' "Starry Eyes" am I remembering?
It was on a mixtape my record store friend made for me around '96.
Tempo was pretty close to the original, vocals weren't as whiny, heavy on the wah and distortion. I don't think it faded out at the end, song stopped suddenly with a final emphatic "...be on your way." Can't find it on spotify or itunes.
I want to say it was on a tape that included Electropura, "Through the Magnifying Glass" by Dave Thomas and the Pedestrians, "The Great Divide" by Ex-Action Figures, "Our Love Will Still be There" by the Fluid.

Too Much Joy's is the right time period and has a similar ending to what you describe, though no wah and they wrote different verse lyrics.

I found this truly bloodless version which doesn't really fit your description but I thought I'd toss it out there.
Like caclwmr4I do wonder if you're thinking of the non-single version of the song by The Records themselves.

Response by poster: Will see if I can track down this other version, but I'm pretty sure it was a different band.

Definitely not Eddie and the Hit Rods' Do Anything You Wanna Do? Was this definitely a current cover version? Not much wah used in the power pop era!
