Batch white balance/ layer transparency?

I have about 4000 images for which i need to correct the white balance.

I can pretty much get what i want in Gimp if i do the following:

a)copy layer
b)use auto white balance on layer
c)make layer slightly transparent
(d) merge layers; save)

Is there an easier way to do this instead of manually going through all of them? I'm not too familiar with scripts etc.

why are you duping layers and merging back? to dial back the white to a value slightly less than white?

additionally, if you have PS available it's suuuuper easy to point the application at a folder of images and run a series of actions against the images. I am insufficiently familiar with the gimp to be of detailed assistance.

The auto white balance is too harsh so to tone it down i make the white balance layer transparent.

Am going to try the folder/Photoshop thing.

Photoshop actions and batch work would do the trick no problem.

Lightroom was built for this. You can download a free trial.

Try out irfanview. It does a pretty good job, and the balance might be more to your liking.
