Times Online printFriendly addresses

Times Online (UK) - how can I find the non-printFriendly link to an article which I found by using search and which is stuck in an ugly print-friendly format?

I just found out I was mentioned in the Times yesterday, but I can only find the page by using search, and the result appeared in a print-friendly pop-up window. I've managed to free it from the popup, but it is still an ugly print-friendly page with the address format http://www.timesonline.co.uk/printFriendly/0,,1-20670-variousdigits.html. I'd really like to find a link to the same article in the original non print-friendly style.

I can't find the article directly using the sitemap and I've tried replacing "printFriendly" with "article" or "newspaper" but that brings up a different article from 2002.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Sorry to be coy (for the sake of anonymity) about the search term and the page address.

Response by poster: Thanks. I saw that and I forgot to write in my post that I am getting an error when clicking on links from the index page you mentioned. I went to what I am hoping is the article in question, but all I got was "[an error occurred while processing this directive] ". Many of the links from that index page have that same error, but not all.

However, I have made a note of the link address, which has some digits in common with the print-friendly link (which is working fine) so if the error is temporary I might yet find my article!

Try it with a different page? Open up the top sports story, see what it looks like in print version and regular version, then carry the changes over to the article you want?

Response by poster: Thanks for the idea - just spent a while doing that - no joy. The address of the article (my article) that returns the error has exactly the same formatting as another address that returns a good page, even though the address format for the print-friendly version of the latter is different from the print-friendly version of my article.

I just hope the error gets sorted out. My gut now says that link would be the good one if it weren't for the error.

Copy the link for the list of articles, and put it in Google, to see if there's a cached version?

This would probably be easier if you told us which article it was..

Have you tried contacting the Times online team, and telling them the page that you're having trouble with? They might not even know an error is occurring, and reporting an error is the first step in getting it fixed.

As an aside, I don't see the big difference between the print-friendly pages and the normal article pages. The styling of the article itself seems to be exactly the same -- all you're missing are the navigation menus and the section title. I don't know what it is you want to do with the article, but can you really not work from the print-friendly version?

Response by poster: Thanks all. I was going to contact the Times later if the error was still there. It is. So I emailed them.

Not google-cached, by the way, as far as I can see.

Since I am vanity-linking and sending the link to friends and family, I prefer the original version, navigation menus and all. Bad taste on my part?
