What shoes should I wear with this dress?

I bought this dress (it's teal and navy stripes) yesterday for going out at night to bars, etc with my friends. What shoes would go with it? Ideally they would be:

flat,
close-toed, and
$50 or less.

I'm at a complete loss because everything I have is based on my mostly black-based wardrobe. Obviously I'm not that fashionable but I can handle a little funky.

Red or orange or pink or yellow flats would look dynamite with that dress. If you want to be more conservative, navy flats or natural canvas espadrille-type flats would work.

Just get fun coloured ballet flats. (Almost) any bright will work with black as well as that, and metallic will work too.

I would go metallic, probably bronze, because then you can wear them with lots of other things, too. I wear the hell out of my bronze flats.

Seconding metallic ballet flats-- I like both bronze and silver for that dress, and agree with something something that you can wear them with so many other things too.

Flat slip on loafers like these or those.
Some oxfords , oxford like shoes or a bit more out there are those oxfords.
Did you consider platforms? Or something like this sandals inspired shoe?

You have tons of options; color and style wise - have fun!

those are only examples, prices might be higher than $50 and I am not sure if you want real leather or a vegan option

Because the dress seems to hit right at the knee, if you do choose a flat, I would go with something low vamp. This will visually lengthen the leg. Avoid gladiator sandals with a dress of this length.

Since the style of the dress is so casual, I'd be inclined to go with something like this. I'd also suggest considering a neutral wedge - they can be just as comfortable as flats!

OK, totally missed closed-toed - sorry about that. Can you tell I'm procrastinating finishing up a term paper? I still think a wedge would be perfect if you reconsider.

If you really want to do this on the cheap they've got lots of ballet-slipper-type flats at Target right now.

It's a really cute dress -- you could also go MR*-sexy, with these or these.

*man-repeller (sub the gender or whatever of your choice)
