Has anyone had lip lift surgery?

Hi, my cousin's thinking about getting lip lift surgery, because she has a thin upper lip and a larger lower lip. I have the same, so I'm a bit interested as well, though it will be 5+ years until I could afford it.

Anyway we've been doing some reading and it looks like there are two procedures, the "bull horn" and the "gull wing." We looked up plastic surgeons in Chicago and found a few well-reviewed ones, but neither of them had lip lifts on their websites, not sure if they don't do them or if they're just uncommon.

Has anyone had this done? She doesn't want Botox or any other injections because she's afraid of looking too duck-lipped. Her concerns are:

1) Getting a natural look,
2) Whether the scars will be bad, and
3) If the bull-horn procedure could change the shape of her nose, which we read somewhere on the internet and sounds scary.

I guess the question itself is whether lip lifts are a risky procedure in terms of natural results? With respect to the above concerns. We've seen a lot of photos that looked great and very few botched jobs, but the "no one reviews unless they've had a horrible experience" wisdom might be the reverse here.

Thanks! I know nothing about cosmetic surgery so I was hoping some of y'all might. This seems like a place where cosmetic surgery might not be that popular (?), but cosmetic surgeon recommendations in Chicago would be useful too, if you happen to have them.

Response by poster: Oh, also, if injections are a much better idea, that would be interesting to know as well.

I know you say she doesn't want injections, but it might be safer to see if she likes it in the short term. A lip lift is primarily for decreasing the space between the nose and upper lip. Fillers like Juvederm and Restylane will go away after 3-9 months; silicone fillers are a bad idea and stay forever. I am not sure what she thinks she will need Botox for. Most people DON'T look artificial; you just want to choose a doctor who understands facial/lip proportions. Look through this website and see if there are any doctors in your area that have pleasing results.

I second 200burritos' suggestion to try a filler injection first. I shadowed a plastic surgeon for a bit in high school, and she did a lot of collagen injections. Duck lip/trout mouth is bad, yes, but you only notice when someone's gotten bad work done. I'd shop around for that, first, before making any decisions on surgery. Bonus: the cosmetic surgeon who does your collagen injections might have a great recommendation for a colleague who does lip lifts, if that's what you ultimately decide to do.
