FoodFilter: Better diet, better life?

I'm wondering about others' experiences of moving from a diet primarily based on 'bought' food to a diet primarily of homemade food.

For much of life, I ate food made by someone else (Resteraunt, fast food, packaged food, etc.). Five years ago, I decided to learn how to cook, and today, I cook probably 75% of the time, except when traveling.

I am amazed at the difference it's made. In how I feel, how I look, how I act, the thoughts I think. I feel incredibly nournished and massive appreciation for food.

Further, as time goes on, I am having a harder and harder time eating out. There is the cost aspect -- I loathe paying high prices for second-rate ingrediants. And the health aspect -- I can taste oils, fats and the various other bits.

Now, my partner and I make our own breads, we invite people over for dinner, and we have a huge knowledge of food. It's been a tremendous journey and personally, I think it's made a huge difference in our lives.

Wondering the experiences of others who have made this transition. No overt point beyond just hearing stories of people who have made similar shifts and what their experiences have been.
