What is the name of this info box that pops in when you scroll to the bottom of a webpage? Seen here here but also on many other pages.

When used in applications this is known as a toast notification.

Looking at the code on a couple of websites that implement this, I see that it is referred to as a 'toaster' (GigaOM) or 'UpNext' (NYT) notification.

From that, I presume 'toast' is the standard.

(There's a WordPress plugin for this functionality.)

Some more information.

I just noticed that this is also implemented on Business Insider where it is referred to as 'SailThrough'.

I'm aware of two companies that provide this service: SailThru's Concierge and SimpleReach's The Slide.

It seems that an industry standard term for this doesn't exist (happy for a web developer to prove me wrong).
Not a web developer, but I think that the word you are looking for is annoying.

Is there a browser add on/plug in/app that will prevent these from appearing?

"Toast" makes sense since it pops up when it is ready at the end of an article.

Also seen it referred to as a Pull-out Content Panel.
