What can you recommend as a good history of the Catskills area nightclubs (the "Borscht Belt") circa pre-WWII to say, the late 1960s?

Best answer: I can't, but I'd bet the folks at The Catskills Institute can. They even have a book corner.

I've looked at bits of It Happened in the Catskills via Google Books, and it seems to be a pretty great oral history.

Not entirely your focus, but Moss Hart's Act One has a few intense chapters on the resorts and their entertainment directors. (My phone is but butchering links.)

Response by poster: MonkeyToes, that link is invaluable....just what I was looking for.
And neroli, I've ordered your suggestion through Powells.com.

Lesser, it's funny you should mention Act One: that happens to be my all-time favorite autobiography! I've read it through several times and it never fails to get me right heah.
