Will dry cleaning hurt my cashmere coat?
March 12, 2012 11:58 AM
I have a 15-year old black cashmere coat (women's) from Kiton. I've never had it dry-cleaned. It's in very good shape and doesn't appear dirty but I'm wondering if it can be freshened up. I worry that the dry cleaner might damage it, for example by flattening the hair when pressing it.
A dry cleaner isn't going to press an overcoat. After the overcoat tumbles around in the big cleaning machine, they steam the wrinkles out. The things dry cleaners press are pants and shirts and blouses and ties and scarfs and similar.

Make sure to find a good one. They can vary enormously in quality & price. For one important item like this, it will be worth a specific trip.
