SCSI Scanner on OS X

Is there any way I can get my SCSI Lintype-Hell Jade scanner to work in OS X for free?

It works with VueScan, but I'd rather not pay $50 just to get a scanner that works fine on OS 9 working on OS X. Any Open Source software/drivers that might work?

Best answer: try and see if this works for you. they are big on supporting SCSI scanners, but unfortunately (for me) it doesnt work with my old USB UMAX 2200. sigh.

Scanning on OS X can be a bit tricky. Your best bet, by far, is to go with VueScan. Sadly, it's rather expensive. But I sucked it up and paid for it some time ago and haven't been disappointed. It simply works with almost everything.

I'm currently using it with a Canon USB scanner and a Minolta SCSI negative scanner.

SANE (what ShawnString linked to) lists the Linotype-Hell Jade as having "good" support. Give it a shot--it's free, after all..

For many users, the $50 you spend on VueScan will be worth it. Awesome to have a single interface for every scanner, a very fine degree of control and it makes lovely scans. What's your time worth?
