(OSX Lion) Cannot set proper screen resolution. Help!

I have a Mac Mini running Lion to which is connected an NEC 2960WUXi.

After reseting the monitor to factory defaults, I cannot select the correct resolution in Lion. It's there (1900x1200) but my monitor only displays 1600x1200 with black bars either side. The right hand side of the desktop is cropped in the view (I cannot see the clock, waste basket etc...).

I don't think the monitor is at fault because it works fine at full resolution with my PC.

What on Earth have I done? How do I fix it? Is there a configuration file I can delete?

It would help to know... What type of cable are you using? VGA? DVI? Mini DisplayPort?

Response by poster: I'm using the DVI port.

No love when you select detect displays? Do you happen to have another cable to try?

Start up in Safe Mode.

Response by poster: Safe mode has not made one iota of difference.

Response by poster: I have solved my own problem!

I switched to a lower resolution (on this particular instance, I chose one that filled the entire width of the screen) and hit the reset the monitor back to the factory preset. Then I switched back to 1920x1200 and it worked as it should.
