Rehab therapy suggestions for Colles fracture in a 50 year old woman.

A 50 year old female friend has a fracture of the radius (Colles fracture). Has recently come out of the cast after about six weeks and needs to work herself on rehab due to shortage of physios in her area. Any suggestions not involving specialist splinting equipment or such like would be happily received.

Even if there are few options for physical therapy in her area, could she obtain at least one consultation from one to give her some things to work on at home? That would be better than random internet advice, if she can swing it.

Nthing at least one first-do-no-harm consult.

That said: getting the wrist warmed up before any exercises is really, really important. She could get a microwaveable gel pack with a strap and wear it for at least 5-10 minutes before attempting any exercises. A squeeze ball is often used for wrist fractures as is Play-Dough type stuff. Check out rehab sections of a good pharmacy. Slowly, slowly raising and lowering the wrist while resting the arm on an armrest is another standard exercise. Maybe there are YouTube Colles fracture exercises. Again, get some medical or PT advice from a professional first.
