Im currently in IT at a Healthcare facility. I want to make the transition to the application side, specifically Meditech analyst. I cant get cross-trained at my current hospital so my question is where can i get trained to be a meditech admin? I cant seem to find anything online for at all for computer based or web based training.

Probably your best bet would be to get a job at an implementation consulting shop or a Meditech hospital and get them to get you trained. Honestly the job market for EMR/CIS people is so hot right now that if you have healthcare IT experience and a pulse it shouldn't be that hard to do even though you're not certified already, especially if you're willing to look at comparable CIS products as well as just Meditech.

If you do go down the implementation road, just make sure you have the relationships with your clients so that eight or ten years from now when the HITECH Act gold rush ends you have an exit path to a facility-side job.

strangely stunted trees has it. There generally aren't online courses to get trained as an EMR analyst for any of the major EMR vendors. There's a few reasons for this. First, training is a cash cow for vendors. They require people to personally come in for training so they can charge high prices for it. Second, vendors want certification to mean something so that when their clients get a certified analyst, they are probably getting a good analyst. It doesn't always work out that way, but there's something to be said for not allowing every schmuck with a computer and an Internet connection to be "Meditech certified." Finally, it allows the vendors to exert influence over the labor market. If people are dependent on the vendor for certification, it incentivizes employees to stay with the vendor rather than leaving for a higher paid positions.

Anyway, your best bet is to get hired on as an analyst in order to get training. Consultancies are also very interested in people with healthcare backgrounds who want to work on EMRs. Finally, another good route is to go work directly for the vendor for a couple of years. If you want to get Meditech certified, go work for Metatech, for Cerner certified go work for Cerner, Epic certified go work for Epic, etc. For obvious reasons they have to certify all of their implementers, so that's a good way to guarantee that you'll get a certification. Plus you learn the ins and outs of the company and what life is like in the industry so the experience is still valuable even if you aren't working directly for a hospital.
