Please help me identify a vintage perfume.
My mother had a favorite perfume which was discontinued sometime before 1985. I can't find the bottle, so I can't remember the name of it, and it's driving me insane! Here's what I know about it:
-The name was one word, something like "Intoxication" (but I don't think that was it) or "Anticipation."
-The little bit remaining in the bottle was amber, so the perfume was probably yellow.
- The bottle was rectangular in shape and had a cylindrical cap which could be pulled off to reveal (I think) a sprayer. It resembled the one on the left, although I think the cap was gold or bronze.
-If I had to guess, I'd say that it was discontinued by the mid-70s at the latest. That's not to say it hasn't been reintroduced sometime after my mother's death in 1987.
-She hated White Shoulders, so it wouldn't have been a sweet floral.
Does anyone know what this was? She used to rhapsodize about it, and would "make do" with Opium or Fracas which both smelled heavenly to me, so I always wondered how blissful her favorite must have been. By the time I smelled it, it had degraded and I could not tell what the original scent was like.

This is the sort of thing the folks on Makeup Alley Fragrance board or Basenotes would be good at. MUA in particular has a lot of posters with expertise in vintage bottles and perfumes. Good luck.

Best answer: I remember my mother using a perfume called Intoxicatation, and it came in a clear rectangular bottle with a gold cap. The exact bottle she had is shown here but it has a glass stopper. It was discontinued for years but is now in production again.

Response by poster: Oh goodness, Iconomy, that may actually be it. All the image searches I did for Intoxication came up with the other bottle shape, but now that I do one today, I'm coming up with one that has the shape and cap I remember. And it looks like that perfume is back in production now.
I posted on MUA to ask as well - I didn't even think about that!

Based on the bottle shape (at least of older bottles), the one-word name, and the similarity to Opium or Fracas, I'm going to suggest Interlude. It's available through Vermont Country Store (they have a lot of "discontinued" perfumes/colognes, so it might be worth taking a look there in general).

Response by poster: I ordered a decant of Intoxication from The Perfumed Court, and I'm 99.999% sure that this is the right one. In fact, smelling the juice from the bottle, it had an identical smell from the one I remember my mom's having, and I think that rather than hers having gone off, I was just smelling nothing but aldehydes. On the skin, it's floral and powdery with a heavy shot of musk.
