I am looking for something a lot like this, only A) available in the US and B) Can copy/store/play in a common lossless format. I know about the Sony Gigplayer, but even just glancing at it am unimpressed. Anything else to look at

Re (A) if not (B): They seem to export. "International customers: European air freight is £39. Rest of World air freight £70."

I think I'm missing something here. What does this do that an iPod doesn't?

That's pretty darn cool. Maybe, if you have the cash, you want something from Olive?

Oh, but more to the point for A, here's Brennan's US website.

It's a standalone ripper, comes with a 500GB drive, and has a built-in 60W amp.

Response by poster: thanks for the US site at least, now if I can just solve the lossless issue.

(I have a PMP already, and one that in some ways is better than an ipod, I am looking for something a little more component-ish and easier to deal with at the source rather than going back and forth to the computer... I really like the Brennen concept it just is failing on the format issue)

The Olive 3HD does what you want, supports FLAC lossless, but costs a grand. Audiophiles rave about it, tho... similar setups head north in price in a hurry, with Olive's own top of the line box going for six grand.

You can roll your own quite easily with Vortexbox, or get one of the systems they sell with it pre-loaded.
